Description

A postal card advertising a reward for a stolen horse, Los Angeles, 20 July 1888. The card, issued by police chief T. J. Cuddy, advertises a $50 reward for the return of "Doble Speeder," a pacing horse, physical characteristics of which is described. The horse's name may refer to Budd Doble, son-in-law of famed rancher and horse owner Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin and father of Rosebud Mullender who lived in the Puente area and attended the 1928 St. Joseph Altar Society party at La Casa Nueva. Doble died at her home in 1926. The card was addressed to San Diego police chief Joseph Coyne and postmarked on 31 July. As trimmed and discolored for pasting down into an album, along with some stains and soiling, the general condition is good.
