Description

A postcard from Camp Clyde Doyle, dated 12 September 1910. The front has three images of students at the camp and of the namesake, Clyde Doyle and another man. On the reverse is information noting that the camp was the fifth annual camp for boys from the Long Beach Y.M.C.A., located at Madame Modjeska's ranch in the Santa Ana Mountains near Orange, during late June and early July of that year. The camp was noted as a republic, which was the form for the George Junior Republic at Chino, of which Doyle was a major supporter. A message identified Doyle, later a member of Congress, as "A young man of great promise because of his power to get on with boys. Ambitious to be of service; he may go far." With some stains, soiling and edge abrasions, the overall condition is fair.
