Description
A postcard, "Picnic Grounds at Carter's Camp, Sierra Madre, California," 2 July 1910. The shows a wooded area with a board across a shallow creek leading to a path, but no apparent formal picnicking area. The message describes staying in a tent the first night and then securing a cottage with a view to the valley below after that. Carter's Camp operated from 1906 to 1913 and offered about three dozen tent houses and several cottages until the land was subdivided and is now part of the Sierra Madre Canyon community. With light soiling, a corner crease, and edge rubbing, the condition is good overall.
