Description

A power of attorney document to David Workman from Jose F. Alvarez, Chihuahua City, México, 27 January 1843. The item refers to a provisional passport received from the governor of New Mexico and in which power of attorney was granted to William G. Dryden, an associate of Workman's brother in New Mexico and later in Los Angeles, while another man, Mariano Ponce of El Paso was given that power to retrieve what could be salvaged from the robbery of Workman's trade caravan near the Texas pueblo. With tears, creases, some stains and soiling, the condition is fair.
