Description

A Prang's American First Prize Christmas Card by Rosina Emmett, 1880. The card has a center image of five girls in a choir, four singing from books and the other playing a violin. Around them are images of flowers, a shepherd with some animals, and an angel overhead. Text on the margin deals with the birth of Christ and the words "In Excelsis Gloria Amen" are at the bottom right. On the reverse is a stamp identifying the card and the prize of $1000, as well as facsimile signatures of the three judges for the competition. Rosina Emmet (with one T) was also known as Rosina Emmet Sherwood (1854-1948) and was a well-known painter, as were two sisters. With residue from the card being pasted down, edge rubbing, bumped corners, a couple of creases, and light soiling, the overall condition is good.
