2013.1017.1.1Description
A press photo of a Romero family member with barbecue materials, Los Angeles, 6 June 1929. The image shows the subject in a dark shawl with fringe, a lace mantilla, and long necklace, holding a stack of plates. Behind her are large steel tubs and smaller ones stacked further back. A typed pasted-down caption on the reverse, discussed José Romero, famed for his barbecues, preparing for a feast for the Shriners national convention and the amount of food prepared. The caption states the woman was Mrs. Romero, but the subject is much younger and is likely a daughter-in-law. José Romero's son Frank was ranch foreman and his daughter Maud Bassity was housekeeper at the Homestead during the later 1920s. With stains, soiling, a nearly detached corner, creases and warping, the overall condition is good.
