Description

A press photo of convicted robber Gordon Smith, Los Angeles, 6 February 1925. Smith is shown wearing jailhouse garb and standing with his left hand in the pocket of the pants and his right holding a cigarette in a bare room. Behind him toward the right, is a table with a box and package on it, and a descending stariwell to the left. A pasted-down caption provides a quote allegedly by Smith telling a judge at trial that he was "ready to go" dressed in the clothes and with his head freshly shaven. The judge then said "Five years to life is my message to you." An N.E.A. press stamp with the date is also on the reverse. With minor warping, soiling and moderate abrasions, the condition is good.
