Description
A press photo of Sakharam Ganesh Pandit (1875-1959), a high caste Brahmin teacher and lecturer on Hindu philosophy as well as a lawyer with an office in the Bank of Italy International Building on Temple Street, Los Angeles. The photograph is dated 28 December 1925. The photo shows Pandit with his wife, Lillian Bernice Stringer, whom he married in June 1920. Pandit was granted US citizenship in 1914. But his naturalization would be questioned and brought to court by the government, threatening his marriage to a White woman, profession and livelihood as an American citizen. In 1927, Pandit successfully convinced the government not to rescind his citizenship. With moderate fading the photograph is overall in good condition.
