Description
A press photo of the casket of Rudolph Valentino loaded from a train to a hearse near Los Angeles, Fred Masters,14 September 1926. There are a couple hundred persons gathered around the site, where Valentino's flower-laden casket is being taken to the hearse parked next to the train track at the center. A film crew is also at the left. To the left is a sign for what appears to read "Mountain Highway" and has the names of Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Alhambra. A pasted-down caption noted that thousands were waiting at the railroad depot in the city, while the casket was taken from a special train "several miles outside the city limits." This would place the location along Mission Road, probably in west Alhambra. With small stains on the reverse, yellowing on the photo toward the bottom right, minor soiling, a loss at the lower left corner and creases at the upper right, moderate warping, the overall condition is fair.
