Description
A press photo of the starting line of the Los Angeles to New York foot race, Ascot Speedway, 7 May 1929. The view from the grandstand shows many spectators and participants gathered on the track of the car racing venue. There are also a few persons on and near the infield. A pasted-down caption notes that the 250 runners participated in the race sponsored by C. C. Pyle (a program for this race is in the museum collection) and it was expected the race would last over two months. A date stamp from N.E.A. and other markings are found on the reverse, though the photo studio stamp is covered by the caption. With a torn corner, minor soiling, abrasions, moderate warping, and some discoloration, the overall condition is good.
