Description

A press photo of the U.S.S. West Galeta launching from a drydock at Los Angeles Harbor, 3 October 1918. The warship, built for the soon-to-be-ending World War, is seen entering the water at the end of the dock with its tall side wooden scaffolding and a gathering of dozens of workers and sailors watching. A typed caption is pasted down on the reverse and there are two date stamps, but the syndicate or newspaper is not listed. Though not specified in the description, the ship was built by the Los Angeles Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. With soiling, small creases, and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.
