Description
A press photograph of Irene Smith, independent candidate for Los Angeles mayor in 1919, dated 15 January 1924. The image is a closeup of the head and face of the sixty-something woman, whose graying hair is pulled up into a bun on top of her head and who wears white clothing. On the reverse in pencil is the inscription, "Mrs. Irene Smith / of Los Angeles, can- / didate for mayor / From Dowell." A N.E.A. reference department stamp is dated 15 January 1924, but is presumed the photo was taken during the campaign. With stains, soiling, a small missing piece of a corner, abrasions, creases and rubbing, the condition is fair overall.
