Description
A press photograph of Isidore Dockweiler, 19 June 1924. The view is a closeup and shows Dockweiler wearing a gray three-piece suit with a white shirt, detachable collar and patterns tie. Captioning on the reverse refers to his attendance at the Democratic National Convention in New York and the photo was produced by Underwood and Underwood of that city. Dockweiler (1867-1947) was a Los Angeles attorney, won the Lieutenant Governor of California office in 1902 before that election was invalidated, and was offered the position of U. S. Secretary of the Interior by Woodrow Wilson in 1920, but refused the office. He was on the Board of Indian Commissioners from 1913 to 1920. His role on the Democratic National Committee and other posts led Will Rogers to call him "the Democratic Party of California." Dockweiler State Beach is named for him. With minor edge rubbing and soiling, the condition is good.
