Description

A press photograph of the La Brea tar pits, Los Angeles, 2 March 1918. The scene has a young woman at the lower left corner pointing with her left hand toward one of the famous pits while a woman and two other men stand near one end of the pit. In the background are oil derricks, sheds and tanks. The Santa Monica Mountains are in the distance as are rows of what look like eucalyptus trees. On the reverse is a pencil inscription, "Asphalt / One of the La Brae [sic] pits." There are other inscriptions and two date stamps, the latter being from N.E.A. and of a 5 September 1923 date. With some siling, creases, discoloration, and rubbing, the overall condition is good.
