Description
A press photograph of Thomas Woolwine, District Attorney of Los Angeles, 11 April 1919. The image shows the legal official, wearing a dark patterned three-piece suit, white shirt and bow tie and seated at his office desk. A caption on the reverse noted that he was determined to prosecute mayor Frederick Woodman on a charge of bribery in the election campaign of 1917, which Woodman won (he'd won a special election to replace Charles Sebastian, who resigned after sexual scandals emerged during his short term in office.) While the grand jury indicted Woodman, he was acquitted in early May of the charge. With printing markings, including on the head and face of the subject, some missing portions on the margins, creases, dented corners and soiling, the condition is fair.
