Description
A press photograph of workers at a flooded street in north Los Angeles, 25 February 1927. The view shows three men in the middle of a flooded street with a man pulling a rope, another holding part of the same, and a third who appears to be where the rope is connected to a manhole cover. Portions of some houses are visible and they have flooded yards, as well. A pasted-down caption on the reverse notes this is a "telephoned photograph" and that residents were trying "to salvage their effects," though what the men appear to be doing is opening a manhole. The view is very similar to that of item .3, but the printing is in reverse of the other image. With vertical lines (possibly crazing due to shrinkage of the emulsion from the base) in the image, creases, warping, and soiling, the condition is fair.
