Description

An International Newsreel press photograph showing the depot of the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad about 1875, with the photo likely from the 1920s. The image shows the ornate French Second Empire structure with two thin towers flanking what was likely the passenger section, while to the right behind a freight car looks to be the wing for freight. At the left is a portion of a plain part of the station. The building was situated at Sixth and San Pedro streets and the line, of which F.P.F. Temple was president and then treasurer served a Santa Monica branch line for two years before being sold to the Southern Pacific. With a tear at the lower right edge, creases and light soiling, the condition is good.
