2013.270.1.1Description
A real photo postcard of a float at the Tournament of Roses parade, Pasadena, Wilbur H. Ink, Los Angeles, ca. 1920s. The vehicle, parked in a residential area, is covered in flowers and has a canopy with a center peaked covering and a man in a suit sits underneath it. Standing along the side and holding a long floral bough are a half-dozen young men dressed in costumes with sheer fabric, including head gear, though it is not known what the theme of the float was. At the bottom left in white is "L.A.C.C.," which might be "Los Angeles City College," given the age of the young men. Below that is "8. Pasadena Rose Tournament New Year's" and the photographer's name. Wilbur H. Ink was a native of Iowa, born about 1885 and he and his wife, Ruth, also a photographer, lived in La Crescenta in 1930 and in Glendale ten years later. For his World War I registration in September 1918, he stated he was ranching in Victorville, California. In 1910 he was an electrical engineer for the city of Wilmington, Delaware. A decade prior, he lived with his farming family in Franklin, Iowa. Ink died in Los Angeles in 1968. With light soiling, minimal browning and minor edge rubbing, the condition is good overall.Lexicon
