2013.998.1.1Description
A real photo postcard of a man in his airplane, believed to be from the Dominguez Air Meet, near Los Angeles, January 1910. The view shows the pilot in a long black coat, light trousers and dark derby at the controls of the craft, which has the thin light wings, vertical piece at the top, tubular frame, small wire wheels and open cockpit of the era. A dozen or more people stand near the craft, which is in an open field. In the distance is a water tower, a bridge over what might be a slough or creek, and what might be a long wall. The unused card has no identification and the AZO stamp box was used from 1904-1918. With stains on the image and reverse, soiling, a corner crease, abrasions, and heavy fading, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
