Description

A real photo postcard of a man standing in a pool of oil, Signal Hill oil field, ca. 1920s. The individual stands in oil about calf high in an area near a street bridge, structures and outbuildings and the pool appears to be dozens of feet wide. At the bottom is a stamp reading "128-130 West Broadway / With Wood-Jackson Arms Co." On the reverse of the unused card is a message explaining the scene, with the writer noting that "we saw this our selves" and "there was [sic] thousads of people out there to see the sight." With some soiling and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.
