Description

A real photo postcard of "Bridge Crest," the home of Albert Otis Birch, South Pasadena, December 1922. As noted in an ink inscription at the bottom, this is a "view of our house from Fair Oaks Ave." and the name of the house is printed in script at the lower left. The sprawling hilltop mansion is of Craftsman style architecture with a rock chimney, projecting bays and sections, wide porches and balconies and a large lushly landscaped lot. On the reverse is a poinsettia leaf seal and an inscription dated 1922-23 and giving seasonal greetings from "The Conaway-Birch family." Otis Birch, a business associate of Walter Temple, found oil in Brea Canyon (Birch Street in Brea and Santa Ana is named for him and his family) and also owned a furniture company in Los Angeles. His wife was from the Conaway family of Santa Ana and her parents resided with the couple in the house. With small dents at the top, minor soiling, edge abrasion, and general discoloration, the condition is good.
