Description
A real photo postcard of fire engines at the Occidental Hotel fire, Los Angeles, 13 March 1917. The photographer stood on 5th Street just east of Broadway and captured about four engines with steam powered tanks on the street and there are many firefighters on site. Some firehoses lie in the street. Behind them is a commercial building with an Owl Drug store at the bottom level. At the far right is part of the corner of another structure. At the bottom is an inscription which reads "5th & Broadway Los Angeles." Another inscription on the reverse indicates, "L.A. / Mar 13, 17 / 5th & Bdwy." On that date, there was a fire at the hotel that caused $125,000 in damage. With minor soiling and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
