Description

A real photo postcard of the Craftsman-style house of Vincent and Ida Gibbs, Los Angeles, 13 February 1911. The view is taken from an intersection and shows the corner lot residence with wood siding, a porch across the front, two gabled windows at the attic, a stone chimney on one side and a lawn and manicured landscaping around the building. On the reverse is a message identifying the home as owned by Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Gibbs. The residence still stands at 2277 West 30th Street at Arlington Street in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Vincent and Idella Gibbs were from Massachusetts and lived there as late as 1900, but were at the Los Angeles address a decade later. In 1920, Mr. Gibbs, a livery stable owner, had died and his widow and her sister lived at the house. With soiling, creases, rubbing and the cancellation at the upper left of the photo, though barely affecting the house, the overall condition is fair.
