2012.507.1.1Description
A real photo postcard of the Schmutzler residence, Los Angeles, 1 September 1906. The image shows the one-story with attic bungalow from the street. There are notable architectural details, inclding a porch across the left half of the front elevation, leaded casement windows, ornamental appliques, Greek Revival porch columns and other elements. A child stands on the lawn next to the walkway and other landscaping is in evidence. A message is at the left and an address on the reverse of the postally used card. The house, at 1603 Cherry Street, now under the interchange of the 10 and 110 freeways, belonged to Albert E. Schmutzler (1860-1951), his wife Minnie and their children, including Elnora (1902-1994), who appears to be the child in the photo. Schmutzler, from Watertown, Wisconsin, was a painting contractor and realtor and the card was sent to his brother Louis's daughter, Cora. With soiling, chipping on the image, and some stains, the condition is fair.Lexicon
