Description
A real photo postcard, "Public School, Artesia, Cal.," Cothems Photo, ca. 1910. The view is taken from across a dirt road at the one-story brick structure with arched windows and doorways, a small cupola on a tower at the back and an entrance at the center right. A few small trees are planted in the dirt yard near the street. The captioning indicates that the photo was taken for "J.H. Niemes." Niemes was a drug store owner, jeweler, first Chamber of Commerce president and school board member in Artesia. An elementary school there is named for him. The postally used card has a 1-cent stamp, a postmark, and a cancellation. With some soiling and edge abrasion, the condition is good overall.
