Description
A real photo postcard with two images of oil well fires at Santa Fe Springs, California, ca. 1920s. The left photo, taken from an elevated position perhaps from another well, shows heavy black smoke and what might be flames and white smoke at the Getty Oil Company's well number 17. Lower down are firefighters with a hook and ladder truck spraying down a gas station. At the right is a scene, taken at ground level of flames, but little smoke, erupting from a well owned by the Bell View Oil Company. On the reverse is a message, dated 1 January, from a grandfather to his grandsons describing these incidents. With some edge abrasions, minor soiling and stains, the condition is overall good.
