Description
A real photographic postcard sent to Thomas Temple from Consuela Roca, written on 9 August, 1929. Consuela Roca or "Con" was Luis Fatjo's cousin and friends of Thomas and Agnes Temple. In view is an arched way entrance with two buildings on both sides. A small path leads to a residence on the left that has wrought iron, tiled roof and adobe architecture. On the bottom of the postcard is a description "EXPOSICION INTERNACIONAL DE BARCELONA 1929/ PUEBLO ESPANOL. CALLE DE ARCOS." In the message Consuela mentions feeling glad that she will see Luis and Agnes, possibly at Barcelona where she was writing from. She also states that the exposition was a marvel to see. The theme of the exposition was industry, art, and sport. Twenty-nine nations participated including the United States and Japan. According to secondary sources, a total of 5.8 million visitors attended the event that ran from May 1929 to January 1930. It is possible that Luis and Agnes visited the event during their six month honeymoon tour of Europe in late 1929. During their stay in a hotel in Barcelona, Spain, Luis mentions in a letter (2017.40.1.140) to Thomas that Agnes had tea with Consuela. The letter was written in 12 February 1930. With minor warping, writing in blue ink, postage stamp on the reverse, it is in good condition.
