Description

Color: Black; White A reproduction black and white photograph of Lucinda A. Temple and Refugia Martinez in a studio portrait, ca. 1860s. Refugia (1847-1869) was the first wife of Thomas Temple. Thomas and Refugia married on New Year's Day 1866. Refugia's parents were Jose Rafael Martinez and Maria Luis Archuleta of New Mexico. Her father may have been a nephew of Encarnacion Martinez, John Roland's first wife. The image shows Lucinda standing at the right in a dark-colored dress and wearing a necklace with a choker and a crucifex pendant dangling around her waist. She also appears to have a hairnet and earrings on. Her dress appears to be satin. Refugia is seated at left and wears a dress with a wide skirt and dark angled solid stripes on a light-colored fabric with faint indications of a pattern on this fabric. She also has a decorative belt, wears black lace gloves without covers for the fingers, has a necklace with a choker, a hairnet, and earrings. At the edges of the photograph are elements of the frame of the case, in which the original photograph is housed, with gold-leaf decorative work partially visible. As a newly manufactured copy, the artifact is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
