Description

A reproduction of an 1866 map of the Rancho San Francisquito. Part a) is the map with the borders in thick lines and including Encinita Avenue as the western boundary; the San Gabriel River as the eastern line; Valley Boulevard, including a section of "old road" as the southern boundary; and portions of Jeffries and Live Oak avenues, as well as an southeast to northwest angle through Arcadia to a point north of Duarte Road between Temple City/Sunset Boulevard and Rosemead Boulevard as the northern line. Also indicated are roads from San Gabriel to Azusa and to San Jose (this latter now Lower Azusa) and from El Monte to Azusa (Peck Road); brush and rocks at the northeast corner in the area around the Irwindale Speedway; brush in the northwest corner; the town of Lexington (El Monte); the Willow Grove Hotel; properties along the old Valley road; the Lexington Cemetery at the southwest corner; and adjoining ranchos and public land. Part b) is the title portion with the legend indicating the survey was done in February and May 1866 by George Hansen and William H. Norway for grantee Henry Dalton and his land claim for the rancho with a boundaries table of stations, courses and other elements, and other information. The map was reprinted for the creation of McGirk Avenue in El Monte. With dogeared portions, edge tears, soiling, browning and a few stains, the condition is fair.
