Description

A ribbon for the Executive Committee of the Ohio Society, Southern California, 1901. The gold ribbon has black lettering for the committee name, the association name, the location and the year. Horizontal lines separate each section with a decorative design at the center. The association formed about 1900, had 700 members (white only admittance) by 1907 and had a reception for Ohio's governor in May 1901, which may be why the ribbon was created. Among memberts were James M. Guinn, noted educator and historian, former mayor Owen McAleer, and Los Angeles Times publisher Harrison Gray Otis. With soiling, some stains and wear to the edges, mainly fraying, the overall condition is fair.
