Description

A sampler created by Mary Workman, 4 October 1825. The items, made by William Workman's younger sister, comprises the letters of the alphabet and numbers from 1-10 and then 11-17, as well as an eight-line poem, "Pleasures of Religion," based on a work by Mary Masters. The item is framed, with a label on the reverse from a Norfolk, Virginia shop, while a typed caption there reads "Sample worked by my grat-grandaunt / Mary Workman, in England—1825. While the frame has scratches and other wear, the sampler appears to be in good condition.
