"A SEMI-TROPIC RESIDENCE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA," 1870s.
Color: Black; White
The stereoscopic image shows a residence in Southern California. On the porch is a woman seated on a left with a child on her lap, and another woman standing at the right. Above the trio is a piece of lattice visible, coming from the porch awning. At the far left is a section of the home made up of red brick with its foundation exposed at the bottom. Flanking the home and property are trees such as a palm and possibly elm or oak trees. The lawn has overgrown grass, thick shrubbery and vegetation. At the center of the image are two, tall, large burlap sacks filled with possibly plant matter. At the foreground, toward the right is a well with a young boy in a top hat and suit, standing in front of the well. With heavy abrasions along the edge, and discoloration, soiling, it is in poor condition overall.Lexicon
