Description
A snapshot of the General Station train depot, Los Angeles, 26 July 1925. The view is taken from one side of the large structure. The building consists of a taller central core with five large arched windows and the smaller three-story flanking wings. Cars and trucks are parked next to the facility and driving on the street in front. At the left in white is "SP+UP DEPOT L.A." Typed on the reverse is "Southern & Union Pacific R.R. Depot / Los Angeles, Calif Taken 7/26/25." This was the Southern Pacific depot (the company's name is at the top cornice over the entrance), built in 1915 on Central Avenue between 4th and 5th streets, and then became, as indicated with lettering at the left of the center block, the "General Station" also housing the Union Pacific. The structure was abandoned with the opening of Union Station in 1939 and razed. With some soiling and moderate edge arbasions, and warping, the condition is fair.
