Description

A snapshot panorama of a part of the ruins of St. Francis Dam near Los Angeles, January 1929. The view shows the riverbed across which the dam spanned, a large chuck of the dam in the center and some rubble at the left. On the surrounding hillsides can still be seen the shadows from the water stored behind the dam. About a year prior, the dam collapsed, sending a wall of water toward the ocean at Ventura and killing hundreds of persons. On the reverse is a pencil inscription, "San Francisquito Dam Jan 1929." With album paper residue, slight fading, some small stains, and soiling, the overall condition is good.
