Description

A snapshot photograph of a sand and gravel operation along the San Gabriel River, probably Irwindale, ca. 1929. The view shows some of the structures, including the crusher with conveyor belts that carry the rough stones. There are a variety of metal sheds to the far right. In the foreground is a pile of metal pipes and other items. At the bottom left corner is a piece of railroad track, which is what the photographer stood on. A pencil inscription on the reverse reads, "San Gabriel River / Gravel pit." With some warping, edge browning, soiling and creases, the overall condition is good.
