Description
A snapshot of smudge pot workers in an orange grove, Duarte, ca. 1910s. The six workers, two women and four men, wear heavy winter clothes and are stand in a row holding oil canisters. These workers were responsible for lighting the smudge pots used to keep frost off of the orange grove trees. Their clothes and faces are stained with soot. Each person has a metal can with a long spout and carries a large canvas bag over their shoulders. The photograph has minor loss at the top right corner, moderate warping but is generally in good condition with a pencil inscription on the reverse.
