Description
A stereoscopic photograph, "Date Palm / Mrs. Longstreet's," attributed to Ellis and Son, Los Angeles, ca. 1885. The view is a detailed shot of the date palm tree set in a garden with lawns, bushes and shrubs, and small trees at the famed garden on the estate built by Charles Longstreet and owned by his widow before the property was subdivided in the 1890s. The title is inscribed in ink on the reverse and a pencil inscription attributes the image to Ellis and Son (the mount color, inscription style, and landscape subject matter do give credence to the attribution.) On the right image, a substantial portion of the bottom left corner is missing and there is soiling, small stains, and edge abrasions, so the condition is fair.
