Description

A stereoscopic photograph of "Dragoon [Dragon] Palm, Mrs. Longstreet's Grounds," Ellis and Son, Los Angeles, ca. 1885. The image is a detail of part of the garden at the estate and focuses on the dragon palm tree, which sits amidst a lawn and is surrounded by other trees and shrubs. The title is written in ink on the reverse and there is a label from Los Angeles booksellers, Olmsted and Wales. The property, on Adams Boulevard near Grand Avenue, was developed by New York wholesale clothing dealer Charles A. Longstreet, who died in 1877, and after which was maintained by his widow, Lucy. In 1887, it was subdivided for sale. With some stains, soiling, small creases, and edge abrasion, the overall condition is fair.
