A stereoscopic photograph, "Wolfskill Orange Grove," Frank G. Schumacher, Los Angeles, ca. 1880s.The view shows a man in a suit standing in the open dirt alley between two long rows of very large fruit trees. The grove, on Alameda Street south of Sixth Street, was planted in 1841 by William Wolfskill and managed when the photo was taken by his son, John. The Wolfskill Orchard Tract was subdivided for sale by summer 1887, which gives a general date for the image. An owner's stamp is on the reverse. With soiling, some very small stains and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
