Description
A stereoview, Los Angeles County Courthouse, H. T. Payne, ca. 1872. The photograph was published as part of the Southern California Scenery series. The elevated view shows a two story, brick building with a cupola tower at the center. The Courthouse was built by Jonathan Temple as a public market house in 1859 and then leased and later sold to the city and county. It is surrounded by several other buildings on the block, including one in the foreground that is missing walls and a roof. The image is in fair condition with moderate edge rubbing, minor surface soiling, fading, and staining to the reverse.
