Description
A stock certificate for the Community Oil Company, Los Angeles, 1920. The certificate is for stock at $1 per share in the firm, which was incorporated in 1920 at $750,000 of total par value and which was located at 315 Marsh-Strong Building, Los Angeles. Its founder was San Diego mayor Louis J. Wilde and wells seem to have been limited to areas close to the U.S./Mexico border. The venture was unsuccessful, Wilde was accused of misuing investors' moneys, and, after finishing his mayoral term, returned to Los Angeles where he died in 1926 at age 61. The condition of the certificate is good.
