A stock certificate for The Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad Company, ca. 1885. The unissued item has space for the name, residence, number of shares, date, month and year, and signatures of the company secretary and president. Attached is a receipt with space for the certificate number, number of shares, name of owner, residence, date and year, date of surrender, name of reissued owner, number, number of shares and date. On the reverse is space for recording transfer information via power of attorney. There is also a vignette of a train on a track in a rural area by lithographers W.J. Morgan and Company of Cleveland. The line, organized in 1883, opened to Pasadena through Highland Park and Garvanza in fall 1885 and extended to present San Dimas by 1887 and was sold that year to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. With slight end wear and some creases, the condition is good.Lexicon
