Description

A studio portrait (a) with a portfolio (b) of Alice Turner, by G. Edwin Williams, Los Angeles, ca. 1910s. The image shows Turner within an oval and has her left profile in view. Her hair is pulled up into a bun and she wears a light-colored dress or blouse. Her clothing is not fully visible but the portrait shows her from the mid-torso up. On the reverse of the photo is Turner's name, address, phone number, age, height and weight. Williams' pencil signature is at the bottom right and his cartouche is on the paper folder, giving his address. Williams, from New York, moved to Los Angeles in 1910 and opened a West Seventh Street studio three years later, though the portfolio gives a West 24th Street one. With little wear or damage, the condition is good.
