A cabinet card studio portrait of a man and woman by James D. Westervelt, Los Angeles, ca. 1887. The image, which is an unusual landscape image trimmed and mounted on a portrait-oriented card, shows the upper torso and heads of the subjects. The woman wears a black satin dress with a heavy chain and locked at the front from the collar to a small breast pocket, while the man wears a high-buttoned dark wool suit with a white shirt and tie. There is no identification. With foxing, soiling and minor edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.
