A studio portrait of a woman, Nell Bowers Lowery, by Charles Beal, Los Angeles, ca. 1910s. The image is pasted down onto a paper backing, which is glued onto a pebbled paper folder. It shows a woman, appearently in her fifties, wearing a wool or tweed light colored coat and skirt, white high collared blouse and a large hat. She wears gloves and holds a purse in her right hand. At the bottom is a pencil inscription, over which is an ink one, with the name of the subject reading "Nell Bowers Lowery." Beal's cartouche is printed on the matte, at the bottom right of which is the penciled name, "Bertha." With some water stains, a few other small marks, soiling, a missing corner to the matte and tears to the fragile portfolio, the overall condition is good.
