Description

A studio portrait of Gertie Edwards, by Westervelt and Cowles, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, ca. 1890. The view shows the young toddler, dressed in a white dress, holding a doll in black clothes, while seated on an animal skin draped over a side chair. The photographer's cartouche is at the bottom along with the business address. The reverse has the identifying inscription, noting that she was the daughter of Fred and Clara Edwards. Gertrude was born in August 1887, hence the estimated date, and her mother and brothers lived a block from the studio in the 1910 census. With little evidence of wear or damage, the condition is good.
