Description

A studio portrait of Hall's Hula Girls, Empire Studios, Los Angeles, ca. 1929. Of the three women, one stands to the left dressed in Hawaiian costume, including a grass skirt and lei, in a hula dance pose. The two other women are to the right with one sitting with a National steel guitar with a slide in her lap, while the other stands strumming a long-waisted guitar with a slotted peg-head and decorative sound-hole resonator. Both women, who hold thumb picks, are looking towards the dancer. The combo performed in San Pedro in November 1929, the only documentation so far located about it. There is an ink inscription on the reverse, including a phone number. The photogragh is in good condition with minor surface soiling, warping, and scratches.
