Description

A studio portrait of Lucretia del Valle, ca. 1910s. Del Valle is wearing a sun hat and a dress and has her hair curled. This black and white, sepia toned portrait photograph was previously stored in a program for The Mission Play, ca. 1927 (Object ID: 2022.3.2.8). It is possible that the photograph may have been taken between 1913 and 1917, when Del Valle played the role of Senora Yorba in The Mission Play. An inscription reads, "To my own Tia Luz / May God always watch over her is the wish of her own / Lucretia del Valle." A marking which reads "Witzel / L.A." near the lower right corner of the portrait may indicate that this photograph was taken by Witzel Studios in Los Angeles, California. With moderate cracking, a moderate tear, a minor abrasion, early signs of silverfish damage, minor brittleness, minor foxing, minor stains, and creasing on the back side, the object is in fair condition overall.
