Description
A studio portrait of Lucretia del Valle, ca. 1910s. Del Valle's hair has been intricately braided, and she is posed with her interlocked hands beneath her chin. She is wearing what appears to be a silk taffeta dress. This black and white, sepia toned portrait photograph was previously stored in a program for the Mission Play, ca. 1927 (Object ID: 2022.3.2.8). The photograph was likely taken between 1913 and 1917, when Del Valle played the role of Senora Yorba in The Mission Play, as she is wearing her costume for the aforementioned character. An embossed marking in the lower right corner of the portrait indicates that the photograph was taken by Matzene Studio in Los Angeles, California. A nonprofessional attempt to stabilize the photo has left tape and material from another paper object adhered to its back side. With two moderate cracks, a minor puncture mark, and minor stains, the object is in good to fair condition overall.
