Description
A tax sale certificate from Tulare County Sheriff William C. Owen to David W. Alexander and F.P.F. Temple for Rancho San Emeidio [Emigdio], 2 January 1864. The rancho was assessed for $2,000 in 1860 to owner D.W. Perley, but the unpaid tax of $80.02 was paid by Alexander and Temple, who then took possession of the 17,710-acre ranch which soon became part of the new Kern County and is to the west of Interstate 5 in "The Grapevine" south of Bakersfield. With a stain, creases, edge tears and soiling, the condition is good.
